Built in the 1650s, it is a rare example of preserved Baroque architecture, featuring the most lavish interiors with gilded moldings, painted ceilings, and intricate woodwork. Originally commissioned by a wealthy financier, the hôtel later became the residence of the eccentric Marquis de Lauzun. In the 19th century, it housed the Club des Hashischins, a literary group that included figures like Baudelaire and Théophile Gautier. I used it as the inspiration for a location to which Madeleine is invited. She is mesmerized by the extravagance of the place, finding herself staring at the ceiling to admire the incredible artwork.
